Blog post #2

My favorite planet is Earth. This is because with out Earth I wouldn't be alive today. It is my home and has beautiful landforms. I also think that Earth looks the prettiest from space. (: Earth provides me with the air I need to breathe, the water I need to drink, and the food I need to eat.

Black Holes: Black holes form from a red star that collapses on itself. They are 10 to 15 times more massive than the sun. Its gravitational pull is so great that even light cannot escape. For something to get sucked into one it has to pass the Schwarzschild radius. Once it passes this point, you cannot escape.

Mars: Mars is the 4th planet from the sun. Its atmosphere consists of mostly carbon dioxide. It has two moons named Diemos and Phobos. At a certain time of year Mars seems to exhibit retrograde motion from Earth's point of view. At one point people thought there might be a possibility that humans could live on mars but it gets to outrageous temperatures.

Pluto: It is debatable if pluto is a planet or not. It actually is classified as a dwarf planet which means it has not cleared it's orbit. Pluto is small and rocky and comes just after Neptune. It is so cold on Pluto that nitrogen and oxygen becomes frozen. It is two-thirds the size of our moon, but is the largest object in the Kuiper Belt.

Asteriod Belt: The asteriod belt comes right after Mars but right before Jupiter. THe asteriod belt consists or, yes, asteriods! Asteriods are chunks of rocks, that sometimes can be metals. Every now and then an asteriod come into Earth's atmosphere and strikes Earth's surface. Some don't even reach the surface, they can burn up because of how fast they come towards Earth.

Milky Way Galaxy: The milky way galaxy consists of Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Asteriod Belt, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, Pluto, then the Oot Cloud. We, obviously, live in the milky way galaxy. It is about 13 billion years old.

I do believe that Pluto is really a planet. It revolves around the Sun and it is spherical just like all planets. Pluto is not just a block of ice, it even has more than one moons that revolveround it.

1. A monsoon is a seasonal wind shift.
2. The two major factors that cause monsoons are the Bermuda High and the thermal low.
3. Monsoons can be considered a good thing because it brings thunderstorms to usually dry places, such as Arizona, and it helps the farmers out there because their soil will become more fertile from the water.
4. Two negative effects of a monsoon is that it can cause flash floods and severe thunderstorms.
5. So many people died because there was harsh raining after a severe dought that caused lots of flooding.

6. Monsoon are both good and bad. They bring rain to very dry places but that rain can destroy towns. Monsoons cause lots of deaths, but they can water crops for farmers.
