1. I learned about Muscovite in Journey to the Center of the Earth. It is super thin rock that breaks easily. I also learned that magnesium is very flammable and that humans can't survive in over 130 degrees Fahrenheit
2. Three things that were scientifically untrue were that dinosaurs are completely extinct, there isn't another world at the center of the Earth, and I'm pretty sure there is no such thing as a glowing bird.

1. My favorite topic we learned about this year in earth science was astronomy.
2. In this topic I learned about space and the planets. I learned about the terrestrial planets and Jovian planets. The terrestrial planets are Mercury, Venus, Earth, and Mars. The Jovian planets are Jupiter, Uranus, Saturn, Neptune, and Pluto. I also learned about black holes. (which was my topic to research and explain to the class) This was interesting to me because I learned a lot about black holes i did not know before. For example, I learned that the reason black holes have so much gravity is because it is smaller, not because it was more massive. I also learned that the only way for a star to become a black hole is if it is 3 times larger than our sun. (So our sun may never become a black hole.) Astronomy was a very interesting topic to learn about. (:
3. I found it interesting because I learned about stuff I had never even thought about before. I got to understand how the universe works. It was also interesting because Mr. Dunn made it fun! Unlike other teachers in the past (:

I think that before the "big bang" happened there was nothing in our universe. Before it happened it was too cold for any stars or planets to form.
One theory as to what cause the big bang is the m-theory. This suggests that two other universes collided causing another universe to form (ours). So now, they believe there is a multiverse (more than one universe.)

1. Astronomers can detect extra-solar planets by radial velocity, astrometry, transit method, and optical detection.
2. Astronomers detect extra solar planets by radial velocity which is also known as the Doppler spectroscopy. This is when they detect the movement of a star which is caused by the gravitational pull of another planet. They use the Doppler effect to detect the frequency of waves that are coming to or away from us. When it is moving away, the light of the spectrum is red, and vise-versa it is blue. They then can determine the size and orbit of the planet.
3. About 75 planets have been discovered by radial velocity.
